Dive Deeper
Mac mini (Mid 2007) was the third-generation Mac mini model, Apple’s smallest desktop computer that was commonly advertised as BYODKM, meaning bring your own display, keyboard and mouse. This is because most other computers at the time shipped with the peripherals, and Apple's iMac was an all-in-one with a display.
A quiet refresh
Apple quietly refreshed the Mac mini on the same day that they introduced the redesigned aluminium iMac, but didn't mention their mini desktop computer in any of the day’s press releases.
Instead, Apple's then-Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook simply told a Q&A session that "The Mac Mini is being refreshed today with faster processors."
New to this generation:
- Faster processor
- Doubled starting RAM to 1GB
- Higher starting storage
Design
The 2007 Mac mini retained the same design as its predecessor, with the white plastic top and silver aluminium enclosure.
Input
The Mac mini shipped without a keyboard and mouse, but came with an Apple Remote. This was an infrared controller which allowed you to use your Mac from a distance.
