Apple CEO John Ternus and marketing chief Greg Joswiak have completed what are likely their first interviews since Tim Cook stepped down earlier this month, discussing the iPhone Duo, its leaks and Apple's leadership transition.

In the interview, split between the Tom's Guide and TechRadar YouTube channels, Joswiak acknowledged the iPhone Duo leaks, and that competitors had imitated the Duo's form factor.

They were discussing the new nano-texture inner display, that is said to make the folding display feel more premium and hide the crease where the screen folds.

Greg Joswiak said that Apple was "super proud" to have kept the nano-texture display a secret, potentially because this is the answer to reducing the visibility of the crease.

"We put the extra security on it, we didn't talk about it to anybody, we had a very funny codename which I won't even repeat that had nothing to do with it"

The unrelated codename is an interesting point. My first thought was the rumoured Apple HomePad. Apple began the keynote discussing an "Intelligent Personal Hub", seemingly setting the stage for the long-rumoured product.

Instead, John Ternus revealed that Apple already sells this hub: the iPhone.

"If you were designing the ideal version of this hub from scratch, how would you do it?... There's no product in the world better designed to be your personal intelligent hub than iPhone."

The rumoured HomePad has leaked very little for a product supposedly releasing in the coming weeks.

Competitor Foldables

Apple's marketing chief also referenced competing foldables that bear similarities to the iPhone Duo's design.

"People knew through leaks we were working on a foldable, unfortunately they got the aspect ratio and lots of coincidental instances of people finding that an interesting aspect ratio"

Joswiak could be referencing the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8, which launched just last month, and looks very similar to iPhone Duo. Some could argue that Samsung released their device first, though Apple could be potentially hinting that this device emerged based on the iPhone Duo leaks.

Apple Leadership Transition

John Ternus was asked what it felt like to become Apple CEO. Ternus said it was an "extraordinary privilege" and that he loves Apple, "it's in my blood". He also mentioned that he was "really really excited about the future", though gave us no insight into the future as you might expect.

Joswiak joked that Ternus was still there, attending interviews since become CEO, to which he responded that he "wouldn't miss this chat".

As Apple's former hardware chief, Ternus is already showing a deep involvement in the new products he launches.

A different approach to Cook

Ternus is already taking a different approach to his predecessor Tim Cook, most notably being joined by another Apple Executive in his first interview as CEO.

In the past, interviews with Apple's CEO, Tim Cook were solo, where he spoke about company values and the new features in Apple's latest products - but never got too in depth.

As someone with a hardware background, Ternus got in-depth with the new product, and it felt as if he was still Apple's SVP of Hardware Engineering. Some questions, including one where the interviewer asked if the iPhone Duo will get the iPhone or iPad version of apps, were handed off to Joswiak to answer.

This could simply be that it's only been a matter of days since he became CEO, and he could make some independent appearances in the future.
