Apple today released macOS 27 Golden Gate developer Beta 3, alongside new versions of iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, visionOS and tvOS.
One notable change in macOS is the addition of 2 new dynamic wallpapers themed after macOS Golden Gate.
The new wallpapers include Golden Gate Sunset and Golden Gate Night, as seen in the images below via 9to5Mac:
The wallpapers are particularly notable because many Mac enthusiasts questioned whether Apple was moving away from its long-running tradition of California-themed macOS releases.
At WWDC26, Apple only showcased a single wallpaper shared across all of its platforms, with no dedicated macOS wallpaper revealed.
Apple has also increasingly referred to the operating system simply as macOS 27 rather than macOS Golden Gate.
On Apple's OS Preview page, Golden Gate appears just twice, while the About This Mac window now only displays the version number instead of the California-themed name.
The addition of these new wallpapers suggests Apple is still embracing the Golden Gate branding, even as the company moves more towards using the version number instead.
