Apple has sued OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, for stealing trade secrets about the company’s upcoming products, according to a report from Bloomberg.

Apple alleges that OpenAI has encouraged Apple employees to share information about upcoming Apple products still in development, including product components.

OpenAI's Chief Hardware Officer, Tang Tan has been named in this case. The executive is a former Vice President of Product Design at Apple, where he worked on iPhone, AirPods and Apple Watch.

This case comes at a time where OpenAI is rumoured to be developing its own phone and AI wearable devices that would compete with Apple hardware.

OpenAI has denied Apple’s claims, saying that they have ”no interest in other companies’ trade secrets”.

Apple has asked for OpenAI to “cease its practices”, destroy any material used from Apple and to redesign its upcoming products.
