Apple has rolled out support for digital driving licences in the US state of Virginia.

The feature allows drivers to add a digital version of their licence to the Apple Wallet app on their iPhone and Apple Watch. The digital ID can be used as proof of age and identity, though acceptance is reportedly still limited, according to MacRumors.

Virginia joins 14 other US states and territories, expanding the full list to:

  • Arizona
  • Arkansas
  • California
  • Colorado
  • Georgia
  • Hawaii
  • Illinois
  • Iowa
  • Maryland
  • Montana
  • New Mexico
  • North Dakota
  • Ohio
  • Puerto Rico
  • West Virginia
  • Virgina

The report by MacRumors also reports that you can scan the ID on an 'identity reader', similar to how you pay with Apple Pay, to provide proof of age and identity.

Apple Wallet Digital ID is supported at TSA checkpoints for domestic travel in the US, and at select retailers when purchasing age restricted items.
