Apple has just released its newest version of macOS, with major design refinements, performance improvements and deeper intelligence with the integration of Siri AI and Apple Intelligence.
This is the first macOS release exclusive to Apple Silicon Mac models, discontinuing support for every Intel Mac. Intel-based apps will be supported for one more year, until macOS 28.
Name
It is tradition that macOS receives a unique name each year. This release has been named macOS Golden Gate.
Siri AI
Siri now has personal context, on-screen awareness and a dedicated app to store your chats.
Siri AI has been built directly into Spotlight search, though the usual keyboard shortcuts for apps, files, actions and the clipboard remain. Siri has onscreen awareness so you can ask about anything you are currently looking at.
Performance
AirDrop is more reliable & Apps launch and load faster.
Ultra-wide Displays
macOS now supports ultra wide displays, including 5K and 120Hz as seen on the Apple Studio Display XDR.
Video Podcasts
The built-in podcasts app now supports video, a feature previously exclusive to iOS and iPadOS.
Design
Liquid Glass has been improved for better readability and users can now customise the transparency with a new slider. Plus, sidebars no longer float to the side of apps and have instead been connected back to the window frame.
Every app now has unified corner radiuses, after apps had a range of different corner designs in macOS Tahoe 26.
