Mac Pro (2006) was the first Mac Pro model, succeeding the Power Mac G5 as Apple's high-end professional desktop. It was also one of the first Macs to transition to Intel processors, replacing PowerPC which was used by previous Power Mac models.

The Mac Pro featured a large aluminium tower enclosure with multiple PCI Express expansion slots, allowing professionals to add additional graphics, storage and other expansion cards.

Unlike Apple's more compact desktop Macs, the Mac Pro was designed for expandability. The internal components could be accessed and upgraded, including memory and storage, making it one of Apple's only configurable Mac models.

The Mac Pro would remain Apple's flagship professional desktop for the following two decades, and was the final Mac in Apple's lineup to transition to Apple silicon.

Apple discontinued the Mac Pro line in March 2026, four years after the company introduced the Mac Studio desktop which now sits in its place.
