Apple has today released iOS 27.0.1 to fix an iPhone 18 Pro Face ID bug that caused the device to crash unexpectedly, along with other bug fixes for all iPhone models running iOS 27.

iOS 27.0.1 is a small bug fix update that addresses some issues that in some cases could leave your iPhone unresponsive. No new additions have been made in this release, as Apple focused on these three fixes:

  • iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max may unexpectedly restart when Face ID fails to authenticate
  • A colour artefact may appear on photos captured at 2x under certain lightning conditions at f/1.48 on a small number of iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max devices
  • Opening Notification Centre and Control Centre simultaneously may cause the touchscreen to become unresponsive

Apple initially addressed the Face ID bug last week, where the company said it would release a fix soon. Apple has already addressed a similar unexpected restart bug on the new Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 models, with the release of watchOS 27.0.1 exclusive to these models last Wednesday.

However, for iOS, Apple has squeezed in a couple of bug fixes for issues that affected all iPhones running the latest version of iOS. Apple says that on iOS 27.0, your touchscreen would become unresponsive if you try and open both the Notification Centre and Control Centre at the same time. There had been videos circulating online about unresponsive iPhones that were running iOS 27.

These videos have not been verified by Everything Apple, but it appears that this was a genuine issue that Apple has now addressed.

The final fix was a camera-related bug on the company's latest pro iPhone models.

This bug only affected a small number of users Apple says, and under very specific lighting conditions when using the 2x zoom at f/1.48. This has not been as widespread, but has now been fixed for those which it affected.

This update come after a slightly rocky start to iOS 27, which many expected to provide more stability after Apple focused much of WWDC26 on performance improvements and bug fixes. However, a complex software platform such as iOS, which is installed on millions of devices across the world, is bound to hit some bumps along the way.
