With an all-new foldable iPhone expected to release in just a matter a weeks, here's everything we know so far about the device.
Name
There have been conflicting reports on what Apple will call the device, as the company keeps marketing material very secret.
Unlike supply chain leaks from manufacturers, product names rarely leak, and when they do - they leak very close to the event day itself.
Earlier this year, many of us anticipated the launch of Apple's new entry-level MacBook following many months of rumours, though the name MacBook Neo came as a surprise.
In an interview with John Gruber following the announcement of Apple Vision Pro at WWDC23, the executive who led the devices development for 8 years, said he was told the products name on the same day as the public.
Many publications, such as 9to5Mac, have referred to the device as iPhone Ultra, though we have continued to refer to the device as iPhone Fold, a name that gets straight to the point.
Users on X have floated other naming ideas, including iPhone Duo and iPhone Folio.
Design
The device is expected to use a Titanium Design, resembling the iPhone Air that Apple released last year. It could also rival the thinness of the iPhone Air, at 4.5mm when fully unfolded according to some rumours. This would make it the thinnest Apple product ever.
The inner display is expected to feature a 7 to 8 inch 120Hz ProMotion OLED screen, using the same screen technology found on all other high-end, modern iPhones. The outside display when folded will be 5.5 inches, at the same specifications at the inner screen.
Controversially, the iPhone Fold could ditch Face ID for Touch ID, though this may be better as you can then use the authentication method when the iPhone is both folded and unfolded. This will be the first iPhone to use Touch ID since the iPhone SE (3rd generation) in 2022.
Performance
Apple is expected to debut a new A20 Pro chip in its new Pro iPhone models. This chip is also expected in the iPhone Fold, along with a new C2 modem, instead of opting for a Qualcomm modem as seen in the iPhone 17 Pro series.
A vapour chamber is also expected to help with cooling, as the iPhone will use titanium, which is not the best material for thermal performance.
Cameras
A dual camera system is expected, with a 48MP main and potentially a 48MP ultra wide. Don't expect the iPhone Fold to have a significant amount of zoom, as found on the Pro models. It may only debut with x0.5, x1 and x2 optical zoom options.
Battery
Apple could use a dual battery system, with one in each side of the iPhone. While this could mean longer battery life, the larger display must also be considered as this will use up more energy. A similar form factor device, the iPad mini, is rated 10 hour battery life, by Apple.
An iPhone should probably have a higher rate, as users will rely on the device throughout their day, everyday.
Colours
Alleged camera protectors for the iPhone Fold leaked earlier this month, with Apples most expensive iPhone set to be available in just two colour ways; Dark Blue and Silver.
The Dark Blue finish resembles the current Deep Blue finish on iPhone 17 Pro and the Midnight finish to the MacBook Air and AirPods Max 2.
Price
Rumours expect iPhone Fold to be Apple's new flagship, overtaking the Pro Max which has held the top spot price wise since 2019.
Apple could price the foldable iPhone from £2000, as similar products in this category start from around £1600 - £1700. Apple traditionally prices newer products higher than its competitors.
