Apple has acquired 'Play', an award-winning prototyping app that was previously available on the Apple App Store.
The acquisition was made public through the European Commission website, where the company first told the EU 3 months ago about the takeover in accordance with local regulations.
Play has been removed from the App Store, leading to speculation that Apple may use features and other aspects on the app in future software releases of Xcode - though nothing has been confirmed.
The filing from Apple says that the company will "acquire certain assets from and have the right to offer employment to and hire certain employees of Rabbit 3 Times". Rabbit 3 Times was the company behind the app.
In 2025, Play won the Apple Design Award for innovation ahead of WWDC25, with Apple at the time saying that the app was a "sophisticated yet accessible tool" featuring a "thoughtfully crafted user interface [which] is both powerful and easy to navigate".
