Apple has made over 50 distinct iPhone models since the product was launched in 2007, experimenting with mini models, larger models, budget models and more recently foldable models.
Here's the full breakdown of every variation of iPhone Apple has made, and what made each device unique.
Current iPhone Models
iPhone Duo
iPhone Duo is Apple's foldable iPhone product line that made its debut with the 1st generation iPhone Duo in October 2026. As Apple's newest product line, there is currently only one iPhone Duo model that has ever been made.

iPhone Pro Max
iPhone Pro Max is Apple's flagship traditional form factor iPhone model that features the largest non-foldable screen on an iPhone, the best camera system and best battery life. Newer Pro Max models features vapour chamber cooling that helps prevent thermal throttle during heavy loads such as gaming or on device AI.
Apple first used the 'Max' branding on the iPhone XS Max in 2018, and debuted its first Pro Max with the iPhone 11 Pro Max in September 2019.

iPhone Pro
iPhone Pro is the company's flagship traditional form factor iPhone model at a smaller scale compared to the Pro Max. Newer Pro models feature vapour chamber cooling and the best camera system on an iPhone. Throughout the history of the Pro lineup, the camera has sometimes lacked various features compared to its Pro Max counterpart. The current generation models, however, all have the same features.

iPhone Air
iPhone Air is a model focused on its thin, premium design. The product category made some sacrifices to obtain its thinness, including the camera system and thermal performance. Whilst this is the thinnest traditional form factor iPhone model, the iPhone Duo is thinner when unfolded. This model made it's debut in September 2025, and currently remains on the first generation.

iPhone
The standard iPhone product line is the longest-running in history, as it was the first iPhone to ever launch back in 2007. Whilst this product line started out as the only line available, it has overtime become the mainstream consumer product of the ever-expanding iPhone lineup. This device often lacks some of the more premium features reserved for higher-end iPhones, but these capabilities often trickle down to this model over time.

iPhone e
iPhone e is Apple's latest variation of its budget/entry-level lineup, which has held many form factors over the years. Making it's debut in 2025, iPhone e modernised the company's entry-level offerings by removing the Home Button, adding Face ID, switching to USB-C and more recently, adding MagSafe.

These models are no longer sold by Apple.
iPhone Plus
Apple first launched its Plus lineup in 2014 with the iPhone 6 series. This product line is essentially the standard iPhone line, but available in bigger sizes. Apple did, however, offer better camera systems on the iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 8 Plus variants.
The Plus lineup was discontinued in 2020 when Apple removed the iPhone 8 Plus off of sale, but returned in 2022 with the iPhone 14 Plus. Apple then discontinued this line a second time in 2026 when the iPhone 16 Plus was taken off sale.

iPhone mini
The iPhone mini product line consisted of just two devices and was a smaller version of Apple's mainstream consumer device. The downsides of this lineup were that smaller phones were not in demand, and the smaller size led to poor battery life.
Ultimately, the mini product line was short-lived launching in 2020 and being discontinued three years later.

iPhone SE
iPhone SE was Apple's first dedicated attempt at an entry-level iPhone device that was originally marketed as the world's most powerful 4" phone. The product line was introduced alongside Apple's redesigned iPhone 6s models which were controversially large at the time. The iPhone SE offered Apple's customers an option to get a smaller device, with the latest chipset.
Later models shifted focus to a more affordable market, and used older chassis designs, including a home button. The lineup, along with the iPhone Home Button was discontinued in 2025, eight years after Apple introduced the first all-screen iPhone.

iPhone 5c
iPhone 5c was a one-generation product line that was aimed at the budget smartphone market. Unlike the latest iPhone 5s at the time which used aluminium, the iPhone 5c used a plastic polycarbonate unibody design. Apple offered this model in bright colours including yellow, green, pink and blue and used a last-generation chipset inside.
The device launched in 2013 and was discontinued two years later.

iPhone XR
iPhone XR was another one-generation product line that was aimed at the lower end market. Sold alongside the iPhone SE product line, this device brought the entry-level market an iPhone model with the modern all-screen design.
The devices downsides were that it still used an LCD display instead of OLED, and had just one back camera instead of a dual camera system.
The device was launched in 2018 and discontinued three years later, in 2021.
