Apple Intelligence has been registered by China's Cyberspace Administration for use on iPhone, according to a report by Reuters.

Apple's on-device AI service, which launched in 2024 with iOS 18, has been unavailable in China due to additional regulations surrounding generative AI in the country.

According to the report from Reuters, companies that operate large language models (LLMs) or generative AI services must seek approval from regulators before launching to the public.

Chinese technology company Alibaba, known for its e-commerce platform, confirmed to Reuters that they will be integrating their own AI model into Apple Intelligence.

The model, known as Qwen, will be integrated "across Apple's iPhone (iOS), iPad (iPadOS), Mac (macOS) and Vision Pro (visionOS) operating systems in China".

A spokesperson for Baidu, a Chinese internet services company, also said that it was working "to develop Apple Intelligence features" for Apple's Chinese users.

The launch of Apple Intelligence in China comes as Apple has seen a major growth of iPhone sales in the country, with year over year growth of 24.4% amid a declining market, according to a report from IDC.

It remains unclear if this means Siri AI, which is powered by Apple Intelligence, will launch in China later this year along with the rest of the world.
