Apple is expected to delay pre-orders for the new foldable iPhone into the final months of this year, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

The report, posted to X, suggests that this Septembers launch may be similar to the debut of iPhone 8 and iPhone X in 2017.

Apple announced both iPhones at the same event, but iPhone X did not become available until 3 November whilst iPhone 8 was released on 22 September.

This is believed to be due to the technological advancements in the new iPhone model and the increased complexity during manufacturing - it was the first iPhone model with Face ID and an all-screen OLED display.

The rumoured iPhone Fold is in a similar position as iPhone X was in 2017 - it is a completely new form factor with its own new complexities.

These complexities include the first ever foldable display on an Apple product and a hinge on the iPhone for the first time.

What else can we expect from iPhone Fold?

iPhone Fold is expected to be the most expensive iPhone in history, surpassing the £2,000 2TB iPhone 17 Pro Max.

9to5Mac reports that the device could cost at least $2500. That's around £1875, though Apple usually matches their US price tag with the UK - the $1099 iPhone 17 Pro is £1099 in the UK.

Ming-Chi Kuo also reports that Apple has manufactured 7-8 million iPhone Fold units, a significantly lower amount than the Pro lineup which is reported to be anywhere between 20-22 million units.

iPhone Fold will be arguably the biggest change to the iPhone since it was first launched in 2007, and it is shaping to be the most expensive ever - even before storage upgrades.
